I opened my first museum aged nine with a collection of stuff collected from the garden. Not only did I show the first sparks of my future curatorial flare by writing little numbers on everything but an early commercial sense by charging my brownie pack for the pleasure of visiting.
Since then I have spent 30 years working in local authority museums and independents in a volunteer capacity and sometimes actually getting paid to be there.
In my current position with Shropshire Museums I lead on the collections management, curation and interpretation of a range of collections across the service; deliver Council initiatives relating to heritage and the service’s collections and provide advice and feedback to senior officers on all aspects of the service. I also act as a Museums Mentor to small voluntary run museums across Shropshire and manage the Museums Development Programme. I ,make a nice cup of tea and occasionally buy my collegues biscuits.
